FAQ

Q? Where do most of the teams practice and play?

A: We are not a traveling team nor are we ‘Park District’. We are a private club that plays in the park areas and schools in Naperville and Lisle. Your coach decides where your team will practice.  We currently play all our games outdoors.

Q? At what age can my child begin to play with Subdivision Soccer?

A: When they are ready, willing and able…usually Pre-K, around 4-5 years of age.

Q? What are the responsibilities of a Team Coordinator or Division Coordinator?

A: This is a dynamic position for our league, any or all of the following are possibilities. Start helping in the beginning with the SSL (Subdivision Soccer League) comissioner (Lori,) and stick around to help your child’s Coach throughout the season is the general concept. For their team/division they act as a point of contact for weather issues and game changes to start the email and calling tree. They are the Green Genies, in that they help us keep our fields clear of straw wrappers and refuse. They may be asked to aide in other ways, such as picking up team uniforms and schedules for the Coach.

Q? Can we charge our seasonal fees to our credit card?

A: We do not accept credit card payments at this time. It would only cost you more money to enroll your child.

Q? Can a player be on a Subdivision Soccer team and a traveling or park district team?

A: That is up to you and your availability. By registering with SSL, you’re committing to get your children to all of the practices and games. If you sign up to play on a team with us, your child is expected to be able to participate in all of the team activities. If this is not the case, you must communicate with your coach so that he/she can alternate field time fairly between the teammates.

Q? How competitive is Subdivision Soccer?

A: We provide a healthy, loving and learning environment for everyone, every game! Generally, our program is considered more competitive than the local park district programs, and less competitive than traveling. This is likely due to the camaraderie found in each team because the teammates are from the same school or same area.

Q? How long is the Fall/Spring season?

A: We play eight weeks in the Fall and eight weeks in the Spring (seven regular season games and one playoff.) Depending on your team’s first playoff game results, you may play an additional playoff game, and a championship game after that. Every player of every team is a winner as the end of regular season and is rewarded with a trophy or medallion as recognition of their hard work with his/her Coach/team.

Q? Where are the “Super Sunday,” Championship Division games played?

A: These are played at the college stadium located on the campus of Illinois Benedictine University, located off of College Avenue in Lisle. Each child in the Championship is recognized on the scoreboard and announced on the P.A. system before their game begins.

Q? How can we start our own team?

A: Coordinate 12-18 players that will commit to a season. Each player must complete a full registration with a Parent Pledge submitted to the league. In addition, each player must acquire a uniform for the upcoming season.

Q? How are the teams formed?

A: Subdivision Soccer follows standard FIFA rules. Their rules state that 11 players may play on the field as a max, 9 is acceptable, 7 is a minimum. A team *should* play down to match their opponent in any competition. We ask for this from our Coaches so that we keep a fair game, but it must also be considered that this is an inconvenience to the team which has all of their players, due to the fact that all of the players that show should get equal playing time.

Subdivision Soccer strives to make the teams consist of 18-21 players to ease the fact that some players are not able to attend every game. With consideration to injuries, schedule conflicts, and late-comers, this number is generally most opportune for our program.

Q? Are there any other supplies we need to purchase for our player?

A:SSL provides each player with a regulation soccer jersey, shorts, and socks. You are required to purchase soccer shoes with plastic cleats (no metal or baseball cleats allowed) and shin guards. All of the above are mandatory and must be worn at each and every practice and game. Although it’s not required, there are some other pieces of equipment you may want to get.

Players: Thermal undergarnments, sport goggles if you wear prescription glasses, re-usable water bottle, soccer balls (size 4 for kindergarten- 3rd grade, size 5 for 4th and up,)

For coaches: goalie gloves, goalie jersey*, cones*, soccer balls* (size 4 for kindergarten- 3rd grade, size 5 for 4th and up,) whistle, dry-erase clipboard, SSL rules and regulations*.

*may be provided by SSL depending on seasonal availability.

Q? Why do we need to pick up our snack and water bottle trash after each game?

A:  Because we’re tired of doing it for you, and pollution increases risks to human health.

Q: Why aren’t all of our games scheduled according to my availability?

A: SSL accommodates game scheduling the best we can. This requires intensive coordination involving multiple teams, field locations and accommodations, not to mention working around school, church, and other recreational programs’ schedules. Some situations take priority over others, like school vacations. With the long and growing list of other activities we are requested to schedule around, some circumstances are not considered at all, such as mother’s day. We apologize for any inconvenience, but you must understand that the dynamic scheduling that SSL deliberates through is our most time consuming and nerve wracking process.

Q: Why do I need to sign a release and the Parent Pledge?

A: These are two separate issues. One allows your child to play. The other allows them a safe, healthy, and fun environment on game day. “Let them Play,” includes harmony for the players and parents combined!
